A Modern Makeover

Dated Cape gets a new contemporary look.

The homeowners of this Cape home knew they wanted to make significant changes to the house, starting with the small kitchen and old bathrooms. We opened the kitchen into the dining and living rooms and relocated the first-floor bathroom to improve flow and allow natural light to penetrate deeper into the house. The open floor plan also means the new maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, glass tile backsplash, and dramatic countertops can be enjoyed from three different rooms.

We converted an awkward, underutilized screened porch into a new family room and added much-needed storage closets on the first floor. As always, attention to detail was key, right down to hardware selections that establish a theme that unites the various spaces within the house. Finally, new wood flooring, detailed crown moldings, and vibrant colors completed the transformation of this aging Cape into a home that can be used for both easy entertaining and comfortable day-to-day living.
