Moroccan style meets New England tradition

The homeowners of this classic New England colonial wanted to turn their staid 1970's retro bathroom into a lively Moroccan-inspired master bathroom.

The deep burnt red on the upper part of the walls, set against the white wainscot below, generates a warmth that matches the rest of the home. The striking backsplash — hand-painted by lead carpenter Marla Greenman — anchors the room and makes for a dramatic backdrop to the beautiful stone vessel sink and wall-mounted faucet. Site-built maple medicine cabinets balance the white panel cabinets below the sink to brighten the room; stone knobs tie the casework to the new granite counter and limestone flooring. The final touch — the focal point of the room — is the deluxe double-ended claw foot cast iron tub. The result is a relaxing, inviting space that brings the homeowners back to another place and time.
