Thank God we found Byggmeister. We live in a condo with a small kitchen and one bathroom. The kitchen had these sagging yellow vinyl counter tops, and the bathroom needed to be completely redone.
We were really very careful. We spent six months researching
contractors, interviewing them, and getting estimates. A friend recommended
the guy we finally hired. He had good references, and he said he could
do the entire job in two weeks. We felt great.
We even felt okay when he talked us into doing much
more to the kitchen than we had originally planned. He had some great
ideas, and said he had good connections and could get cheap materials.
Over the July Fourth weekend he totally gutted our kitchen.
He did a section here, a section there. Then he wouldn't show up
for days. We were leaving town for the last three weeks of August,
and told him he absolutely had to be finished by the time we returned.
They had to rip out wiring and plumbing that had been done wrong; it wasn't just wrong, it was dangerous. It took two months for them to undo the damage and then finish the job.
We came back Labor Day weekend to find our toilet in the hallway the kitchen half done, and no sign of him or his tools. We had to buy a toilet the next day, and were lucky enough to find someone to install it on a holiday.
So then we had to find someone to finish the job. The first contractor took one look around and said he wouldn't touch it. Then Paul walked in, and in his characteristically calm way, said, "We'll work it out somehow."

The contrast couldn't have been greater. Paul is so reliable, so clear about what things will cost. The crew is wonderful; it was truly pleasant to have them around. And their work is exceptionally fine. One day I watched Peter sand the threshold between the kitchen and dining room floors. He works like an artist.
Now we have two beautiful rooms; realtors are impressed. We're hoping to buy a new place, and we're bringing Paul along to see what he thinks about some of the changes we have in mind there. We'll never use anyone else.
