Setting the Bar: Byggmeister’s 2025 Annual Goals

December 2024
by Rachel White

At Byggmeister, we are constantly evolving and improving to ensure that we provide the highest quality work to our clients while advancing our mission. Each year, our teams collaborate to set goals for the following year. Our 2025 goals reflect our commitment to excellence across every area of the company. Here’s a look at a few of the ambitious goals we’ve set for ourselves this year:

Sales Goals

Performance-Focused Projects
In 2025, we aim to expand our project offerings by developing a business plan for weatherization and electrification projects that do not include renovation work. Our goal is to establish a dedicated pipeline for these projects, offering decarbonization services to homeowners who seek a holistic and comprehensive approach beyond what is currently available through existing utility programs. Brendan will spearhead this effort.

Ballpark Budgeting Process
It’s critical that we and our clients align on the overall budget before starting design work. That’s why we’ve set a goal to review our ballpark budgeting process and tools, ensuring we provide realistic and useful cost information to potential new clients upfront to help them decide if we are a good fit for their project. Cador will lead the charge on this goal.

Design Goals

Design Budgets and Schedules
It’s equally critical that we meet client expectations regarding design fees and schedules. As we’ve built our internal design team, we’ve realized the need for more robust systems to estimate and track design fees and schedules. Rachel is overseeing the development and implementation of these systems.

High-Performance Assemblies
Our design team, led by Frank, will focus on documenting high-performance assemblies to ensure they meet standards and best practices for code compliance, buildability, and low embodied carbon.

Material and Product Selections
Meg and Annie will lead efforts to improve our material selections, ensuring that chosen materials are functional, durable, healthy, and sustainable. The team has committed to tackling three product types each year that are specified in multiple projects.

Production Goals

Virtual Job Book
In 2025, Zach will implement a virtual job book to ensure the production team always has the most current project information. This tool will streamline access to information internally and for our subcontractors.

Field Crew Training
Because of our small size and the nature of renovation work, we must make a concerted effort to ensure our less experienced carpenters learn and practice new skills. To this end, Jacob will integrate training days into our projects, particularly when executing less common tasks, such as framing a hip roof or building a set of stairs. This training will supplement our existing in-house programs and the four days of paid education all employees receive.

Environmental Impact Guidelines
Ed will develop standards for evaluating the environmental impact, particularly carbon emissions, of materials selected and purchased by the production team (i.e., those not specified by the designer).

Feedback Loops Between Design and Production
One of the biggest benefits of the design-build model is the close collaboration between the design and production teams. To fully realize this benefit, we need to close feedback loops in a timely and efficient way. Michael will lead the review of our existing mechanisms and identify areas for improvement.

Company Goals

Office and Storage Space
After 30 years, we have outgrown our existing office and storage space in Newton. This spring, we will move to a larger office in Waltham that will meet both our immediate and long-term needs, allowing us to support our growing team and projects. Stay tuned for updates!

Recruitment Plan
Rachel will oversee the development and implementation of a recruitment plan designed to attract a diverse pool of top talent for all open positions. With a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, we’ll continue to strengthen our team and maintain our high standards of excellence.

Streamlining Administrative and Financial Systems
Cador will document standard operating procedures and assess our existing administrative and financial systems. The goal is to identify opportunities for streamlining and improving efficiency so we can better serve our clients and support our team.

Our team looks forward to the opportunities, challenges, and growth the coming year will bring. With clear goals in mind, we’re driving innovation in the home design and renovation industry while staying true to our core values of quality service, sustainable practices, and strong collaboration. Here’s to another amazing year ahead!
